The best English lesson EVER
(For those of you who don't know me, am a club WAG and teaching English in Gosforth this year)
Basically, I'm teaching AS Level English language this term and the kiddies need to learn, among other things, about sociolects (language used by a particular social group). So I thought: lesson on kayaking lingo!
My plan is to give them a list of words/phrases that we use that normal people do not, get them to hazard a guess at meanings/social group, then show a video with all the words/phrases in it and discuss. And therein lies the fundamental problem.
Does anyone have video clips illustrating any or all of the following:
Eddy hopping
Epic swim
Beatdown
Popping a deck
Breaking in
Boof
Tail squirt
Playboating
Retentive/munchy hole
Hucking gnarl
Also advice on how to create said video would be rather helpful, now I come to think of it ...
Any other phrases that you use would be delightful as well!

This should be examples of a few of them.
In terms of how to make the vid...I imagine you'd have to have the original file which I don't have...(so not much use.)
Beatdown
Should encompass:
For the rest...I have pictures...

Another term you could use is: "Man Up"
With this being an example of
"Manning it Up"
Though that example is probably more suited to "Man up & Strap it on"

humph, I can't download that! Oh well, never mind. Thank you for the suggestions though - I've plundered YouTube and facebook for lots of photos and video clips so hopefully it will work ...
